Strange New World As We Enter The 6th Decade Since The M

No, this helmet is not part of any change upcoming in the Bronco's appearance. If you know me you know I am waiting for the permanent return of the "D" if not the light blue that went with it.

Welcome to my 1st blog in some time football fans. Unfortunately, it's being written in a pandemic that has the planet in a quandary with almost nothing functioning normally. Events lately make almost zero notes bright but I have recently finished the 10th update of NFL Since 1970 and I am thrilled with the new pages that bring the count to about 116. The 2019 version will be the first full book printing since 2015 (what a great year in football that was!) While I am really bummed my talks on football were cancelled in AZ soon after the sports world pulled the shades in March of 2020 I found myself with time to get this endeavor looking like I had hoped it would to commemorate the 50 seasons it contains since the AFL/NFL merger. I just love how the 100th season of the NFL was the same year even though it well over-rode the former milestone. Really pleased the Broncos celebrated 60 seasons after its 1960 start by being 60 games over .500 in regular season games since that 1st ever AFL game that counted on the road vs the Boston Patriots. Of course the book covers only NFL games post-merger but as a numbers guy I like the 3x 60 and I can't talk about all-time now without bringing up the wonderful lack of wins the team known as the Raiders has had since 2003. That lone winning season since then (2016) was quite the anomaly for this team that once defined what pride meant for a pro-sports organization. One of the great results has been the erasure of the bane of my childhood... the fact I had nothing to say to Raider fans when comparing the two clubs in anything! Well, in that wonderful season of '15 they tied in Super Bowl tiles(3) and in the process the 4 straight AFC West titles earned got those numbers corrected to DEN 15 LV 12! While it should not be a surprise, it's hard to fathom that not only did Denver blow past the Raiders in all-time winning percentage but so did the KC Chiefs. They were a bad team for a long time and their own current 4 year rein as AFC West champs is the 1st time ever that KC put 2 back-to-back. (Even the Chargers are within 20 games of LV in an all-time standings and an opening day win will make them 453-453 over their 60 seasons) So its been a great time to be a Bronco fan when looked at from the perspective of the Raiders but this 3 year hiatus in winning seasons is due to end based on our 4th,3rd & 2nd place finishes the last 3 years... OK... 1st might be a stretch with the new AFC powerhouse in our division but 10 wins and a third shot at KC in Jan. '21 should not be looked at as far fetched. Keep looking back here as I delve into how teams ranked over the 50 years and we look at the pages I added... what that means for your team in bragging rights when talking to other fans. Please email with any questions and ideas to blog about. All 31 other teams are fair game if you want an in-depth look at what high & low lights have been for a random club!
