In 1931 during a game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, Babe Ruth runs from 3rd base to home plate on a sacrifice fly. A man named Charles Berry positioned himself between Ruth and home plate. -- Berry former end for the Frankford Yellowjackets, a pre-Eagles NFL team in the Philadelphia area in the 1920s, that won the 1926 Championship. He missed the out, but the collision between the two sent Ruth flying in the air. Ruth went to his position in right field in the next inning, however, when responding to an outfield hit he collapsed to the ground and was carried off the field at Fenway Park, and later taken to the hospital. He missed the next 2 weeks of play to rehab his injury. It was determined that he had suffered nerve damage, resulting from the collision with Berry. Charles Berry may not have the name or notoriety that Babe has, but outside of his football and baseball career, for sure he will be remembered by that play. -- J Nussbaumer
